Ellsworth boys rescued from train car
Two five-year-old Ellsworth boys were rescued from the inside of a coal car July 28 on the rairoad tracks in Ellsworth. No injuries were reported.

(1946-2009)

Richard E. Habbart, 62, Dorrance, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Russell Regional Hospital, Russell.

He was born Dec. 10, 1946, in Ellsworth, the son of Edward and Hazel (Parks) Habbart. He married Rita Homeier Sept. 7, 1968.
  
Richard was graduated from Wilson High School in 1964. After graduation Richard enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served in the 995th Maintenance Company. While enlisted he was activated to Fort Hood, Texas, during the Vietnam Crisis. Richard worked as a farmer/rancher for 10 years before becoming a heavy equipment operator for the Russell County Highway Department.  He worked there from 1986 until his death.  

Richard loved his family, spending time with his granddaughters, and visiting with people. He never knew a stranger.  

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Rita, of the home; son, Keith (Jeannie) of Manhattan; daughter, Kristine (Waylon) Smith of Topeka; and two granddaughters, Paige Habbart and Olivia Smith.

Visitation was Sunday at Foster Mortuary, Wilson, with a memorial service following.

The funeral was Monday, June 29, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Wilson, with Father David Metz officiating. Burial was in Wilson Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, American Cancer Society or an organization of the donor’s choice.
