![]() Ellsworth's Caleb Schultz provided this photo of several hail stones from Thursday night. And the hail fell By I-R staff Last Updated: September 04, 2009 The leaves fell in Ellsworth Thursday night or — more accurately — were shredded by hail and tossed to the ground. Hail, between two and three inches in size, pounded the city for a time, damaging cars windows and other property. Local insurance agents were busy with telephone calls after they opened for business Thursday morning. The hail, which at one point turned downtown Douglas Avenue white, was accompanied by heavy rain. Ellsworth received more than two inches during the night, including from another storm that moved into town just before sunrise. In other parts of the county, Kanopolis received more than two inches of rain and no hail and Wilson reported small hail. Less than a mile east of Ellsworth, 1.35 inches of rain was reported.
