Streetscape project begins Monday
Last Updated: September 09, 2009

Demolition work is expected to begin Monday, Sept. 14, on downtown Ellsworth's streetscape project. In recognition of the start of the project, a kickoff ceremony is planned at 9 a.m. at the Lonnie Soukup Agency.

Chad Janz of Heartstone Inc., project contractor, said demolition work will begin at the southwest corner of Main Street and Douglas Avenue. The demolition process will take one week. During that time, access will be maintained to businesses between Main and First streets, but parking stalls in that area will be inaccessible.
The following week, demolition is set for the west side of Douglas Ave. between First and Second Streets. Access to businesses there will be maintained, but parking stalls will be inaccessible.

In other streetscape news, the task force has set a Sept. 28 deadline to order commemorative bricks. The $50 bricks can be reserved by filling out forms available at Seitz Drug or the Village Mall. Ellsworth High School music students also will sell the bricks.

Watch this space each week for updates on downtown construction.
