Ellsworth and Holyrood firefighters battled another series of suspicious bale fires Monday evening.

According to Holyrood Fire chief Mark Breford, at 6:45 p.m. firefighters responded to a report of 10 round bales on fire along the road three miles south of Holyrood. The bales were owned by Tony Heitschmidt. Breford said the fire was suspicious in nature.

At 7:15 p.m., Ellsworth firefighters responded to 14th Road, where five rows of 18 round bales each (90 total) were on fire in a field near the road between Ave. R and Ave. S.

Firefighters also responded to two separate fires on Ave. Q between 13th and 14th Road, where two rows out of six rows of round bales were set ablaze in a field by the road. The bales were owned by Kendall Rathbun.

Ellsworth Fire chief Bob Kepka said these fires were all suspicious in nature and are under investigation.

Anyone who has information on these fires is asked to call local law enforcement or Ellsworth County Crimestoppers (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
