Community dinner is Nov. 26

With Thanksgiving a week away, Edie Pennington and her group of volunteers are busy making preparations for the fourth annual community Thanksgiving feast from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, at the Ellsworth Senior Center.

“We're looking for more people to come this year than last year," Pennington said. “We've already had 20 reservations call in. Last year, we had a total of 250 people attend. But with the economy down and everything, we're hoping for more this year."

Pennington said she started the dinner because she likes to do family things.

“My family is gone now," she said. “It's just me, my husband and my daughter. So we decided to open up our house. When that got too small, we went to Ellsworth's Immanuel Lutheran Church for one year."

The Senior Center is the biggest venue yet.

“It works out really good," Pennington said. “Everybody tries to be a family down here."

On the menu will be roasted turkey and dressing, baked ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn and rolls. Pies and salads will also be served.

“It's free to anyone in the community, but if you want to give a donation you can," Pennington said.

Pennington hopes she gets enough reservations so tables can be reserved for families to sit together.

“Then they can play cards or do whatever in the afternoon," she said.
