Ellsworth boys rescued from train car
Two five-year-old Ellsworth boys were rescued from the inside of a coal car July 28 on the rairoad tracks in Ellsworth. No injuries were reported.

Mary Ruth Roberts
(1917-2009)

Mary Ruth Roberts, 92, Coffeyville, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville.

She was born March 30, 1917, in Parsons to Eugene Lant and Hazel Green Lant. She married John Lee Roberts of Severy Aug. 16, 1937, at Idaho Springs, Colo. Mary was a wonderful homemaker and was very involved in her church as well as the Eastern Star. She loved her involvement with Poinsettia sales to benefit Hospice.

Survivors include daughter, Gayle Lank of Coffeyville; son, David Roberts of Huntsville, Ala.;  sister, Alberta Addis of Yukon, Okla.; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mary Ruth Roberts will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Coffeyville. Interment will follow Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Bushton Cemetery.

Visitation will from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorial donations to Windsor Place Chelsea Unit for Alzheimers at: 2921 W. First Street, Coffeyville, Kan. 67337.
