Wilson celebrates its 50th annual festival this year. The festival continues Saturday, July 30, and include a large parade and many other activities.

Event to benefit Wilson museum
Last Updated: December 02, 2009

The Phoenix has started its rise.

Supporters of Wilson's House of Memories Museum will conduct a benefit soup supper and bake sale Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Wilson Senior Center.

The museum was lost in a Nov. 6 fire, which gutted the historic Czech Opera House. The museum was in the basement of the century-old limestone building.

Money from Sunday's event will go to purchase display cases and to copy historic photos. Plans are to place cases, filled with Wilson history, at the Senior Center and City Hall until a permanent museum location is found.

Serving will start at about 4 p.m. — after bingo from 2 to 4 p.m.

On the menu will be chicken noodle, chili and green bean dumpling soups, pies and cakes. Payment will be by donation. Matching funds will be provided by the Santa Fe Trail Chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans.

Organizers are asking people to bring old photographs and other memorabilia for a special display table. Pledges also will be taken for items to be donated to Wilson's future museum.

Special guests will be past Kansas Czech queens.

Call Joyce Kraus, (785) 658-2328, for more information or to donate baked goods.
