Independence Day DEBBIE MAI Tuesday June 29, 2010
Guess what, it is almost July 4! This is the holiday I enjoy the least. Why? Well, blowing things up, mostly my $$ does not actually appeal to me. Watching children run around with fire does not appeal to me. Drinking beer and hanging by the pool, well, yeah, that TOTALLY appeals to me. However, it is also the holiday that takes me back to my childhood when my dad would freak out and yell all day. Not a lot of fun. I do remember my Uncle Fred though, who was hugely unaware that Leo (my dad), was nearing the point of stroke by firecracker. Uncle Fred, well, he LOVED the Fourth of July and the Saturn Missile Battery. Well, how can you not LOVE a firecracker that makes high pitched screeeching sounds while shooting into the air over, and over, and over, and.....OVER! Let's see, nope not my favorite piece of the July 4 celebration. Now, you had to be there when the jumping jacks attacked my Aunt Karan, NOW, that was FUNNY, I am pretty sure that scarred her for life, probably almost as bad as her trying to climb over the electric fence to retrieve a softball out in the pasture, and yes folks the fence was on. Some of my friends would tell me how they had roman candle fights, I was not sure how that could be a good idea, especially since, according to Leo, we were all going to blow our, well, choose a string of foul words and insert here, fingers off, lose an eye, kill somebody, start the field on fire...geez, it's amazing the world has survived all of the past Fourth of Julys with as much mayhem as my family must have caused(according to Leo). Now, my husband's family, they CELEBRATE! Explosives, HECK YEAH! What can we blow up next? This is where the pool and beer come in handy. I refuse to take the fun out of the day for my kids by yelling, sooo, I drink beer and relax by the pool. If a child burns their finger, NOT my problem, this may sound cold and uncaring, however, I laid down the law about fireworks a LONG time ago. I do not do them, I do not like buying them, I do not light them, soooo, you can see why I am exempt from being compassionate when someone gets hurt. Thankfully, Jeff's family is relatively responsible when it comes to blowing things up and allowing children to blow things up. Yeah, like make sure you only mix so much of this with so much of that before lighting it. We don't want to blow our fingers off, hey, go grab that pop can, let's see how high we can get it to fly. Man, did you see that, let's see what happens if we use more, OH SCRAPPY DAPPY DOO, that was AWESOME. Hey kids, come watch THIS!! The beer, where is the beer? Mommy needs a beer! Of course the real reason we celebrate is freedom! We are all very fortunate to live in this country that let's us be free. Thank God, yeah, I said, THANK GOD, for what we have. Celebrate Independence Day, the day that honors the birthday of the United States, you may be like me where all the hoopla sends you over the edge, but the real reason for all the fun is important to celebrate, so folks, go out, have fun and don't cause to much mischief and mayhem, and unless you are bringing beer you might just want to stay away from me:)
Family Fun Night? DEBBIE MAI Thursday June 10, 2010
Okay, it is 2:22 am. Why on Earth am I up writing this blog? Well, mostly because I was getting frustrated trying to outscore my brother on Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. Since the frustration set in and I had used all of my boosts I decided I should be a little more productive with my time, thus, here I am. Sadly, I will most likeley go back to FB once I am finished, because one thing I can't stand is my lil brother having a higher score than me on ANYTHING. It's actually our one way to drive each other crazy beings we are on different continents and can't just bug each other like normal siblings. Of course, when our families get together we really can't play normal games like pitch, pinochle, Sorry, or RISK. First of all, NOBODY wants to be my partner in a card game, I am competitive in the sense that I am going to get the bid, I may go set over and over, BUT I am going to get the bid. This drives most people crazy, ESPECIALLY when I win. Now, I do not win ALL the time, but I win my fair share, yet, nobody wants to be my partner. Oh well! Secondly, any good natured play will be destroyed by someone cheating by rolling dice wrong. Yes, I said rolling dice wrong. I was unaware that there is a right way and a wrong way. The wrong way actually being that you roll the dice and get what you want more often than my sister sees fit. This can be a very, very, VERY, sensitive situation. Our family has never, ever, EVER finished a game of RISK, mostly because after we found out that there was illegal dice rolling we decided it would be safer never to play again. Yes folks, playing games in our family can be very dangerous, so it is just a tad bit safer to play against each other on FB, by the way, my sister plays the game also, but right now my brother leads, than me and then her. So, if you don't mind doing a little rah-rah Debbie cheer I would greatly appreciate it.
